ABSTRACT

Objetivo: Avaliar clínica e radiograficamente os cotovelos de pacientes lesados medulares e compará-los ao grupo controle. Métodos: Vinte pacientes lesados medulares (10 paraplégicos e 10 tetraplégicos)foram avaliados clinicamente através de escala de dor, aferição do arco de movimento (ADM) ativo e passivo, grau de força muscular e questionário de escore MEPS. Os pacientes também foram sub metidos à radiografia dos cotovelos. Ambos os grupos foram comparados ao grupo controle. Resultados: Quanto à avaliação da dor,quatro pacientes paraplégicos e três tetraplégicos apresentaram dor leve a moderada, esporádica e relacionada ao movimento. O grupo controle revelou-se assintomático. Quanto à amplitude de movimento passiva, não houve alteração significativa entre os três grupos. Apenas o grupo de tetraplégicos apresentou diminuição do ADM ativo eno grau de força muscular, e pior média no escore MEPS.O número de pacientes nos grupos de lesados medulares com alterações radiográficas foi igual, embora estas foram mais graves no grupo dos tetraplégicos. Conclusão: Pacientes lesados medulares apresentam alterações clínicas e radiográficas nos cotovelos, mais evidente nos tetraplégicos. Nível de Evidência III, Caso Controle.


Objectives: To evaluate clinically and radiologically the elbows ofspinal cord injured patients and compare them to the control group.Methods: Twenty patients (10 paraplegics and 10 tetraplegics) wereclinically evaluated through assessment of pain scale, measurementof active and passive range of motion, degree of muscle strength andMEPS score. They were also submitted to bilateral plain radiography ofthe elbows. Both groups were compared to the control group. Results:Four paraplegic and three tetraplegic patients referred mild to moderate,sporadic and motion related pain. The control group was asymptomatic.No statistic significant difference was found in passive range ofmotion among the three groups. The tetraplegic group showed a loweractive range of motion as well as lower MEPS score as compared to thecontrol group. Equal number of patients in the spinal cord injured patientshad radiological abnormalities, but those were more severe in thetetraplegic group. Conclusion: Spinal cord injured patients presentedclinical and radiological elbow abnormalities, which were more evidenton tetraplegics. Level of Evidence III, Case Control.
